Read across America
Posted on February 4, 2010
This is friendly reminder to all SDEA members that Tuesday, March 2 will mark Read across America!
Read across America is a program sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA), and its state and local affiliates, such as the California Teachers Association (CTA) and the San Diego Education Association (SDEA). NEA’s Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2, the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.
Because SDEA’s special interest is the success of our students, SDEA encourages all members to help coordinate, plan, and participate in the RAA activities at their school sites. If you site does not have a tradition of holding RAA activities, SDEA recommends that members who are interested in organizing around RAA get in contact with Kimbrough Elementary’s teacher-librarian Marion Snell, the SDEA RAA chair, at email@example.com.
For information and ideas, please contact Marion Snell or visit the NEA or CTA websites:
