Dear SDEA Brothers and Sisters,

We can and should be indignant about the fact that for too long, educators in San Diego have had to bear the burden of  SDUSD’s mismanagement, the state legislature’s paralysis, Wall Street’s unregulated greed, and a failure on the part of our state and its citizens to make public education a priority.

There are no easy answers and simply ignoring the impact that the recession and the state budget have had on our local schools is not an option. We as educators have to make difficult decisions to protect our contract, stop the layoffs and continue to provide a quality education for our students.

Earlier tonight, the SDEA Board met and approved the appointment of our SDEA Bargaining Team.

In order to win, we must be unified.  We ask that you stand with us as we work to achieve our goals.  Should we reach a tentative agreement through these negotiations, it will be brought to SDEA members for a ratification vote.  If we do not reach a tentative agreement, everything remains the same as negotiated in our current contract.  In the event no agreement is reached, we must prepare to stand together and fight through the summer and into the next school year.

As we move into bargaining, watch for updates and join us as we fight to protect our contract, stop the layoffs, and defend our students’ right to a quality education.

Together We Are Stronger!

In Solidarity,

Your SDEA Bargaining Team
