New
CTA President- New Goals
by
Jim Groth, CTA
Director, District P, & Chula Vista Elementary School District
Sanchez.
He is the first Hispanic president of CTA. At the July CTA
Board of Directors meeting, Sanchez shared his vision and goals
for
his presidency.
Goal
1-Active and Involved Local Chapters
Chapters would include active involvement of new members. The
fastest
growing demographics by age in CTA are the 20-30 and 50-60 year
olds.
Nearly 40% of current CTA members will be eligible for retirement
in
the next 5 years. Chapters would include the participation of
Education Support Professionals (ESP) members.
Goal
2-Protecting Proposition 98 and Leading the Future of Public Education
Provide leadership to protect Proposition 98 along with adequate,
equitable and stable funding for all schools. CTA will work to
provide assistance to schools of greatest need and to ensure the
success of the Quality Education Investment Act (QEIA). Also,
provide
leadership to erase, rewrite, and reauthorize NCLB.
Goal
3-Institute for Teaching
Seek to provide dedicated funding for the Institute for Teaching,
a
program that encourages innovative, teacher-led change.
Goal
4-Retirement and Health Care
Protect the secure retirement system that is now in place for
California teachers. Develop affordable and quality health care
for
all.
President
Sanchez has lofty, but realistic goals. He, along with the
other CTA officers, is committed to visit at least one school
a week.
His goals and vision for CTA deserve our support.
