The
Safety Article and the Governance Team
By

Each site
is required to have a Site Security Plan.
- Section
11.6.1 states, "The Supervisor shall, in concert with
the site governance team, be responsible for the development
and implementation
".
- The Security
Plan, Section 11.6.3, "
shall be reviewed
and evaluated at least annually be the site supervisor and unit
members."
- "All
unit members shall be informed and given a copy of the existing
written security within ten workdays of the date of reporting
to their work location." Section 11.6.6
- Details
of Site Security Plan criteria can be found in Section 11.6.2.
Each school
site is required to have a site discipline plan.
- Section
11.7.1 states, "Each school site principal, in concert
with the staff and governance team, shall develop a student
discipline plan".
- The plan
must conform "to the provisions of this Article and district
procedures."
- Additional
detail can be found in Sections 11.7.1 through 11.7.6.
These include a teachers right to suspend from the classroom
(Sections 11.7.3 and 11.7.4 and Ed Code 48900).
Notification
Requirement
Section
11.10.4 requires the site administrator to "notify unit
members of students assigned to their classrooms who have been
convicted of serious offenses and/or have been formally suspended
at other schools as soon as such information becomes available."
SDEA filed
and won a grievance on this issues and the district committed
to creating a procedure to ensure compliance with their responsibility
under this section. The grievance contended that, at a minimum,
if the information existed in the student's cumulative file than
it was available. Since time has passed and no procedure is in
place, we are seeking information about cases where this notification
has not taken place and the classroom teacher learned of the student's
history on their own or after a serious incident in the classroom.
