- 2006 Contract Changes and Clarifications

The
2003 - 2006 Collective Negotiations Contract is in print. All
principals and Association Representatives should have already
received a copy. Copies are being sent to all unit members as
they
come off the press. The Contract includes numerous changes from
the
last printed edition. The changes result from four elements:
-
Language negotiated during bargaining
-
Clarifications reached through grievances
-
Clarifications through the Contract Administration Committee
-
Simple changes to incorporate references and current terminology
An
example of clarification reached through a grievance is found
in Article 8, Section 8.10 where the following language is added.
"All
core and block classes, are considered one instructional period
that lasts from one (1) to (3) hours, therefore, all requiring
one preparation. However, in recognition of the level of intensity
required by the two (2) or three (3) hour courses, teachers assigned
to teach such core and block classes will only be required to
teach, within the five (5) period teaching day, one other course
during those remaining two (2) or three (3) periods. "
An
example of a simple change to incorporate a reference is found
in Article 10, Section 10.7.2.1 Professional Study Leave. The
added reference is, "See Appendix A, 4.0333." A unit
member applying for a Professional Study Leave will find, by reading
the reference section, that in some cases it is possible to earn
a step increase on the salary schedule while out on the leave.
This is not a new contract provision but the reference means unit
members will be aware of the possibility.
