Year
Round to Traditional Calendar & Traditional to Year Round
Calendar

Moving
from one calendar to another raises a number of issues since
the year round calendar is different than the fiscal year (12
month
period covered in salary schedule). The fiscal year runs from
July 1
to June 30. The year round calendar starts in late August and
ends
in mid July. The final fourteen days of the year round calendar
occur in a different fiscal year than the rest of the calendar.
What
does this mean for you?
When
going from a year round calendar to a traditional calendar
You will have worked the fourteen days in July. You will be working
one hundred eighty-four days on the traditional calendar. This
is a
total of one hundred and ninety-eight days. The contractual work
year is one hundred and eighty-four days. Therefore, when moving
from a year round to a traditional calendar you will have worked
fourteen extra days. The District is required to pay you for these
days at your pro rata daily rate.
When
going from a traditional calendar to a year round calendar
You will be working one hundred seventy days on the year round
calendar prior to the end of June. Therefore, you will be fourteen
days short of the contractual work year. In order to receive your
full salary for the year you must work those fourteen days.
Article 8, Section 8.1.1 and 8.1.2.2 both state, "Regardless
of
school calendar to which assigned (traditional, single-track
year-round, etc.), unit members who are employed as of July 1
of any
year shall be provided the opportunity to earn a full work year's
retirement credit and a full work year's compensation during each
fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) of employment by the District."
This
means you have an absolute right to make up the fourteen days.
You have the option of not making up the days and forfeiting pay
for
that time. However, if you want to work the days and receive a
full
year's pay, it is vital that you make arrangements to do so.
Intersession is usually the means for making up the fourteen days
but
it may be possible to make other arrangements with your principal
and
the Human Resources Services Division.
