Intersession
and Summer School Pay
By Steve Kaplan, UniServe Field Organizer
SDEA
and the District signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on
June 20, 2006. The School Board approved the MOU on July 11, 2006.
The primary change within the MOU is SDEA unit members will receive
additional salary for teaching during Intersession and Summer
School.
Under the previous contract language, the prorata rate of pay
was based on the salary schedule and your placement (step and
column) on that schedule on June 30. For example:
A
teacher placed at Column C / Step 7 on June 30, 2006 who teaches
Intersession during the current year would be paid based on
that placement and at the salary rate in place on June 30, 2006.
Under
the new language established by the MOU, the prorata rate of pay
will be based on your current placement on the current salary
schedule. For example:
The
same teacher will have moved to Column C / Step 8 and the Intersession
pay will be based on that placement plus the 5.78% salary increase
will be used in calculating the prorata rate of pay.
The
total impact of the change will result in that teacher for this
year receiving an Intersession salary about 8% higher than they
would have received under the old language.
The
same concepts apply for Summer School teachers who received the
benefit of step and column changes plus bargained salary increases
starting July 1 of this year.
Sick leave will now be charged at five hours per day. Under the
old language it was charged at four hours per day.
