Article
10, Section 10.23 establishes a Catastrophic Leave Bank for SDEA
unit members. The purpose of the Bank is to assist unit members
"suffering from a catastrophic illness or injury." The
definition of such an illness or injury is "a severe, incapacitating
illness or injury which is expected to continue for an extended
period of time which prevents the unit member from performing
his/her duties."
In
order to participate in the Bank you must donate at least one
sick leave or vacation day to the Bank (Sections 10.23.3.1 and
10.23.4.2). Unit members who qualify may receive up to forty additional
full pay sick leave days from the Bank (Section 10.23.5.1). The
donation of a day is irrevocable. The day cannot be designated
to benefit a specific participant.
Each
month of May is an enrollment/donation period. Information on
how to participate and become a member of the Catastrophic Leave
Bank, or how to donate additional days is available in District
Site Operations Circular 1034. You can access this circular by
inquiring at your site or by going to
http://www.sandi.net/staff/circulars/0607/so1034.pdf.
This
is an opportunity to contribute to your peers around the District
in a time of need while providing additional coverage for yourself.
