Short Term Leaves

The contract provides a wide range of short term leaves. These include:

Section 10.2 Sick Leave - full time employees accrue ten days per year. There is no maximum number of sick leave days that can be used in a year.

Section 10.3 Personal Necessity Leave - unit members may use up to eight days of this leave per year. The contract lists nine categories that qualify for this leave. You must use full pay sick leave days when taking personal necessity leave.

Section 10.4 Personal Business Absence - there are three types of leave in this section: two-hour leave not charged to sick leave; Two day absence that is charged to sick leave; and one-month absence that is unpaid.

Section 10.5 Paternity and Adoption Leave - one full day of leave with salary available to father upon birth of a child or day child leaves hospital and one day for either parent to make final arrangement for adoption. Not charged to sick leave.

Section 10.13 Absence on District Business - with or without loss of salary may be authorized with administrative approval.

Section 10.15 Bereavement Leave - without loss of salary for a period not to exceed five days upon death of member of immediate family as defined in this section and Section 10.16. This is not charged to sick leave. This leave is not limited as to the number of deaths in a given year. Each qualified death creates a new entitlement.

Section 10.19 Family Care Leave - up to sixty days. This leave is without salary but can maintain health and welfare benefits. The days need not be consecutive.

Section 10.20 Family School Partnership Act Leave - this leave is also covered in Personal Necessity Leave. It provides leave with salary to participate in activities of child's K-12 school.

Section 10.21 Jury Duty - This leave is with pay and lasts for the length of jury duty service.
