Dear SDEA Members:

Twenty-three years ago, the San Diego Education Association, CTA/NEA voted to endorse the services provided by MetLife Resources (then called United Resources). Today, many SDEA members are retiring comfortably because of the financial planning services that MetLife Resources offers to our members. MetLife Resources is the only financial services firm endorsed by SDEA.

Every few years, SDEA reviews the financial services and membership services package offered through MetLife. During the spring of 1995, SDEA interviewed MetLife and other firms offering similar services. Evaluation criteria included commissions paid, variety and number of financial products provided, availability of financial planning, as well as membership discount programs and support for CTA services. MetLife Resources again scored head and shoulders above the competitors, and as a result, SDEA has renewed the endorsement with MetLife Resources for another long term.

Endorsement of MetLife Resources was again reconfirmed in the spring of 1998.

MetLife Resources services are provided through a staff of full time professional financial services advisors. Patricia Quigley, CFPtm, CLTC started her professional career as a teacher and has been working with SDEA members for twenty years. Anne McDougal, CLU. ChFC, CFPtm, CLTC has been in the financial services business for over twenty-two years, the last eleven with SDEA. Gary Rumsey. LUTCF, CLTC a former career Naval Officer, had been in the financial services field for over seven years before signing on with MetLife Resources in 1999. Laura Bottaro, CFM was an instructor at the Junior College level before embarking on her financial services career with Merrill Lynch. She has 24 years in the business.

Services provided by MetLife Resources include:

  • Individual financial planning; including advise on budgeting, insurance, retirement, investments, estate planning, taxation, long-term care and social security.
  • Regular Financial seminars on the above subjects.
  • Referral services for the benefits/programs provided through CTA and NEA (Travel, auto purchase, credit union service, salary protection insurance, etc.).
  • Wide range of discount buying services including movie tickets, entertainment discounts, hotel/motel discounts, group purchase plans, etc.

These services may be accessed through contact with MetLife Resources at (619) 282-8399 or by visiting the MetLife Resources offices located in the SDEA building upstairs in Suite 209.

We want to remind you that SDEA endorses the services provided by MetLife Resources, but we are unable to endorse any specific financial product offered by MetLife. We believe that we have a high quality program of membership services through this long-term relationship with MetLife Resources. We encourage you to utilize these services to help you plan for the future.
