FAQ: Prep Time Emphasis Changes
Attention Prep Time Teachers and Other SDEA Members:
The start of the new year is a good time to review the process that SDUSD must follow to make a change in prep time subject emphasis at a school. Click here to download a memo from the joint SDEA/SDUSD Prep Time Committee explaining in further detail. Also, click here to download the Change in Prep Time Subject Emphasis Request Form that the site may use. These forms should have been sent to your site’s administrator by SDUSD Human Resources.
The key points to remember are:
- Each elementary site MUST have a Prep Time Advisory Committee
- The Site Governance Team (SGT) MUST approve any changes to a site’s prep time subject emphasis, and submit the request for change to the Prep Time Committee for approval no later than February 1.
- If a site is contemplating a change in prep time emphasis, the affected prep time teacher(s) MUST have the opportunity to engage in the debate and discussion at the SGT meeting where the vote on the change is taking place
As a reminder for prep time teachers, if you are experiencing problems with the implementation of the prep time program at your site, please work with your AR to reach resolution. AR’s, if you need further assistance, please contact a SDEA Contract Specialist at (619) 283-4411.
