Ten-Point Program to Support our Students & Communities

Protect Our Students and Communities

  1. We want to protect our students and communities from the uncertainty of a new federal administration that seeks to privatize our schools and disrupt our students’ right to a high-quality public education.
  2. We want to preserve federal funding for vulnerable students (11% of San Diego Unified’s budget) that includes Title I funding for low-income students, Title III funding for immigrant and multilingual students, and IDEA funding for students with disabilities.
  3. We want welcoming schools where all families can safely bring their children to learn, regardless of immigration status.

 

Safe and Nurturing Schools

  1. We want equal treatment for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
  2. We want expanded restorative justice practices to address the growing social, emotional and behavioral needs of our students.
  3. We want to defend our academic freedom to teach the truth with a community-based and culturally-responsive curriculum that prepares our students to be critical thinkers and changemakers.
  4. We want clean school facilities that allow students to focus on their learning in healthy and safe environments.

 

Stability for Our School Communities

  1. We want to end destabilizing layoffs and transfers during the school year that change students’ teachers and interrupt critical connections with families.
  2. We want to improve access to affordable housing and other resources beyond the school day for our students and their families.
  3. We want more community schools that provide ongoing services and support to fit each neighborhood’s needs, run by the people who know our children best – families, educators, staff and the students themselves – all working together.
